Kurilynashi: The islands will be connected to mainland Russia
A fiber optic communication line will be laid next year from mainland Russia to the Kuril Islands. This was announced today at the board of the Ministry of Communications of the Russian Federation by the President of PJSC Rostelecom Mikhail Oseevsky

“Literally this week a ship went to sea to carry out survey work. We plan to complete the design in the fall of this year, conduct competitive procedures and begin laying the cable in May next year. This work is being carried out within the framework of the Federal Target Program,” Oseevsky said.
Last year, Rostelecom laid fiber-optic communication lines between Sakhalin and Magadan, as well as between Sakhalin and Kamchatka.
