A series of contradictory statements by the “Prime Minister” of the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, about the attitude towards the Serbs of the region again became a trigger for Belgrade.

The situation in the region remains tense due to the postponement until September 1 of the implementation of the decision of the Albanian authorities to replace car license plates and new documents for entry into Kosovo and Metohija. The decision was supposed to come into effect on August 1, but in the end it led to mass protests by Kosovo Serbs and almost ended in armed conflict.

In his next statement, Kurti emphasized that no one will stop the ROSU special police squad from entering the territory of Kosovo enclaves in the north of the region when necessary. At the same time, he forgot that, according to UN Security Council Resolution 1224, only the mayors of these cities can give permission for the police to enter.

The director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, responded to this by saying that Albin Kurti is in vain trying to set some new conditions and blackmail Belgrade, as well as force it to recognize the self-proclaimed Kosovo. This will never happen as long as Aleksandar Vucic is President of Serbia.

“For Belgrade, the only thing that can be the subject of negotiations with Kurti and Pristina is the restoration of full UN order and the competence of the UNMIK mission in Kosovo and Metohija, full compliance with the UN charter, as well as strict compliance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244,” Petkovic noted.

He also noted that Kurti is doing everything to sabotage the normalization of relations at a time when Belgrade is making superhuman efforts to find a way out of the current crisis.

“Once again Kurti showed that he does not want to build peace, but wants to destroy it, bring down stability and any attempts to normalize relations. Simply put, Kurti is ready to destroy everything he touches, especially when it comes to dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina,” concluded Petkovic.

Earlier, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that the country faces a difficult struggle for the survival of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija and that the only correct policy is to preserve peace as much as possible.
