Kusturica will make a film about Soviet partisans in Belarus

The director himself stated this during a meeting with the Minister of Culture of Belarus Boris Svetlov, BelTA reports.

“At the end of September I will finish filming my film “On the Milk Road,” and in 2016 I will have the Cannes Film Festival. Therefore, in 2017 I will be able to start filming the film in Belarus,” he said.

In the fall of 2014, the Belarusfilm film studio and the French film company Cinema Soleil entered into a memorandum on the joint production of the full-length feature film “If not now, then when?” Serbian director Kusturica.

The script of the film was written by the director together with Gordon Mihich, based on the novel of the same name by the Italian poet, writer and translator Primo Levi.
The action in the film will take place during the Second World War on the territory of Belarus. The film tells about the partisan struggle against the Nazi invaders.

Primo Levi's novel was written in 1982 and was awarded prestigious Italian literary awards - the Campiello Prize and the Viareggio Prize.

Emir Kusturica was awarded the prize of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko “For the preservation and development of traditions of spirituality in cinema.”
