Kuzhel laments that Kyiv did not follow the path of sophisticated assimilation of the Russians of Crimea
Ukraine needed to follow the path of not clumsy, but more sophisticated assimilation of the Russians of Crimea, then Kyiv would not have lost control over the peninsula.
This was stated on the NewsOne TV channel by Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexandra Kuzhel, a former member of the Crimean parliament, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I traveled all over Crimea, talked to people, and I can tell you that in 10, when I arrived after working there for three months, I said that we had lost Crimea. Do you know why? When my own sister, who died in Sevastopol and I was not even allowed to attend the funeral, said: “I would have killed you, sister. So, please tell me, why, at 82 years old, should I read a prescription for medicine in Ukrainian? Why did you doom me like this? Why did you, my dear, condemn me to the fact that I must write applications to the housing office and to the court only in Ukrainian? And if I can’t write it, then I have to hire a translator.”
That’s when I first explained to Yushchenko and everyone who pushed through and imposed the language that this is not the way to treat things. I never voted for any of these laws because I remember my sister’s words,” Kuzhel said.
She called for “soft” Ukrainization, which should be carried out “with love”:
“With love, my dears. When I spoke in front of large halls of entrepreneurs in Donetsk, I always addressed everyone and said: “Dear mothers, it’s all of you who influence, don’t push so that children don’t learn Ukrainian. On the contrary, you want a future for your child - give him the opportunity to know the Ukrainian language. Maybe it will be the minister, the prosecutor general. And everyone understood that this is how language should be introduced.
Now we have passed a parliamentary norm on the Ukrainian song - I thank you, I am happy that I voted for it. I got to know so many Ukrainian performers, saw very chic, the world’s best Ukrainian cartoons, very good actors of ours appeared, got jobs. This is very good.
But we have the right not to forget that people should have... Listen first. Because I no longer hear on television what language the program is in, because I am already in this environment. Softly, with love. We won’t have any questions,” Kuzhel voiced the recipe for de-Russification of the population.
