“We are a modern nation, modern diplomacy, we need to support this trend,” Deshchitsa said in an interview with the host of the “High Life” program Katya Osadchaya, explaining why he chose an expensive, fashionable metropolitan restaurant for the meeting.
Osadchaya asked the diplomat how he managed to become one of the richest ministers - he himself drives a BMW X5, and his wife drives a Mazda.
“You can calculate how much a car costs, how much I earned while working on a business trip abroad in the diplomatic service. The ambassador to Finland earns approximately 3000 euros per month,” he said, to which Osadchaya noted: in a year you can really earn money on a BMW, but if you don’t eat at all.
"Sometimes it is necessary to solve diplomatic problems with undiplomatic actions. And if there is a result, and there was a result - we managed to stop the pogrom of the Russian Embassy and calm down the people who were protesting, then why not use this method? – he once again explained the scandal at the Russian Embassy in Kyiv.
– When I drove to the embassy of the Russian Federation, I had absolutely no idea how it would all end. That is, I did not plan how it should all be. My main task was to prevent a provocation, which could then be used by Russia, including, even to sever diplomatic relations, the introduction of troops. After all, the destruction of the embassy and, God forbid, beating Russian diplomats would mean to them that we have invaded their territory. Several of my colleagues, foreign ministers, when I was already saying goodbye to them, expressed their support for me. That is, if they did it publicly, with statements, that’s one thing, but when they sent me an SMS, that’s another,” Deshchytsia explained his refusal to give names.
According to him, the process of his further appointment to the ambassadorial position is a process of many months of procedures, which is why he is still in Kyiv.
