The Latvian Seimas today declared Russia a country sponsor of terrorism. The Latvian parliament also called on EU countries to “stop issuing tourist visas and limit the issuance of entry visas” to citizens of Russia and Belarus.

Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevich wrote on the American social network that Russians will be expelled from the country, since all holders of Russian citizenship will no longer be issued residence permits. Three days ago it was reported that the State Duma of the Russian Federation in the fall will consider the possibility of simplifying the procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship by residents of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

However, problems have already appeared for holders of Russian citizenship. Latvian gymnast Elizaveta Polstyanaya said that she received a letter with an ultimatum - to renounce Russian citizenship or be expelled from the team. The Latvian Gymnastics Federation has now announced that it does not have the money to finance the athlete’s participation in competitions, but if she wishes, Polstyanaya can go to the World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships at her own expense. Polstyanaya began her career in Russia, but in 2018 she became a citizen of Latvia.

Russian Foreign Ministry Speaker Maria Zakharova, who previously called the upcoming decision “pathological Russophobia, which has already become the cause of serious economic and social problems,” today did not comment on the decision of the Sejm.

"News? No. Already commented. Considering that there is no substance behind this decision other than animal xenophobia, the ideologists should be called nothing less than neo-Nazis,” Zakharova wrote in her TG channel.

Russian Senator Sergei Tsekov believes that Russia can take retaliatory measures of an economic nature, for example, banning transit.

“Is there still a Latvian embassy in Moscow?” asked his colleague Andrei Klishas.

Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov believes that the Latvian incident is not worthy of comment.

“A third of their population fled. They live by exporting our products. Europe has gone crazy, and the Baltics more than anyone else. This deserves neither comment nor respect. For 700 years, Russia defended its right to live in these open spaces and speak its own language, and they licked German boots there, and now the fosterlings of the fascists continue to dictate to us how to live. We can cope without them, they can’t cope without us,” Zyuganov told URA.RU.

“Who is Latvia?” asks political scientist Marat Bashirov.

Russian hackers from the KillNet group attacked the official website of the Latvian parliament.

“We recognize the Latvian Seimas as a pile of crap,” they wrote.
