Latvia has adopted another anti-Russian law
The Russian Foreign Ministry condemned the Latvian Seimas, which on March 23, in the final third reading, approved amendments to the law “On Education”, providing for the transfer of all schools to the state language of instruction (Latvian).
“Such odious steps, taken under hypocritical slogans, supposedly being done almost “for the good,” and even more so, “at the request of the students themselves and their parents,” in fact have nothing to do with taking into account the interests of national minorities living in the country, but on the contrary, they are a continuation of the discriminatory policy pursued in Latvia over the past 25 years, aimed at the forced assimilation of the Russian-speaking population,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the adopted amendments contradict the declarations of the Latvian leadership on commitment to high democratic standards and values.
“Official Riga must realize that with its unfriendly steps it continues to complicate bilateral relations, and all responsibility for this falls entirely on the Latvian side,” the statement says.
