Gaponenko reported this on his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

He compared the actions of the Latvian authorities with the Nazis and emphasized that he would challenge the court's decision.

“This is a complete legal chaos. This court decision creates a precedent for the prosecution of all anti-fascists in Latvia, all ordinary residents of the country because they do not agree with the construction of a racially pure society. The ideals of the Third Reich and the New Order in Europe are now protected by the power of state coercion. The decisions of the Nuremberg Tribunal are completely crossed out.

The road has been opened for the territorial redistribution of the world... Freedom of thought and freedom of speech in Latvia has been trampled upon, democracy has been given a long life. This casts a shadow over the whole of Europe and therefore the fact of punishing an anti-fascist and opening the way for the institutional persecution of all other anti-fascists and simply dissidents will be hidden,” Gaponenko wrote.

According to another Latvian human rights activist, whoalso susceptible to pressure On the part of the security forces, Vladimir Linderman, Gaponenko was condemned for his criticism of the government and his harsh assessment of its policies.

“His harsh statements about the government, “Latvian journalists,” “Latvian SS men,” etc. were interpreted by the court as inciting hatred against the entire nation. Therefore, I do not agree with the assessment of the sentence as “soft”. He's just blatantly unfair. In fact, this is the introduction of political censorship. The verdict must be challenged.

A suspended sentence does not mean complete freedom. A couple of administrative violations (even those not related to politics, for example, crossing the street in the wrong place or violating the mask requirement) and you can end up behind bars. You should be careful in such everyday situations,” Linderman said in his blog.

On Gaponenko’s blog, under the news about the court’s decision, many users, including residents of Latvia, supported the human rights activist and wished him good luck in his further struggle. But there were also those who called on him to voluntarily leave the country and emigrate to Russia.

“The patriot above demands in his comments that I and my lawyer be deprived of citizenship and expelled from the country. Calls them an occupying tribe. This is the main effect that the organizers of the process were counting on - to incite hatred towards foreigners and push them to extrajudicial killings. I’ll clarify: my citizenship was already taken away in 1993. And I am the son of a hereditary military man, the winner of Nazism, of which I am immensely proud!” Gaponenko answered his enemies.

Earlier, PolitNavigator reported that in Latvia mass repressions began against activists and journalists.
