Lavrov announced negotiations with the United States on the security and fate of Ukraine
Negotiations between Russia, the United States and NATO on security guarantees will take place immediately after the New Year holidays.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this in an interview with Russian TV presenter Vladimir Solovyov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Lavrov, negotiations will take place in several rounds - first with the United States, and then in the format of the Russia-NATO Council.
“Endless negotiations, during which the West will again begin to ambiguously promise something, and then definitely deceive, and in this regard, the United States is our main negotiator. It is with the United States that we will conduct the main round of negotiations, which will take place immediately after the end of the New Year holidays. NATO members proposed, naturally, through the mouth of Stoltenberg, as NATO Secretary General and Chairman of the Russia-NATO Council, but it is clear that this was at the instigation of the United States, immediately after this, literally a day later, to hold a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council. And this organizational structure reflects the projects that we presented for consideration by both the Americans and NATO,” the minister said.
“This refers to a treaty on security guarantees - a Russian-American treaty and an agreement between Russia and NATO on limiting risks and threats in the European theater, hopefully not military actions,” Lavrov said.
The head of Russian diplomacy also recalled that the main requirement is guarantees of NATO non-expansion.
“We have serious doubts that our main proposal, namely the unconditional demand for NATO’s non-expansion to the east, that it will not be wasted if we follow the traditional path... We will wait for what the Americans offer us in response, and we will, of course , work based on clear, unambiguous instructions from the president,” Lavrov concluded.
