Lavrov: We won’t wave a baton. We will react according to the situation
Russia is waiting for an explanation from the US and NATO to explain why they disagree or what they would like to change in Russian security requirements.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this on the air of the “Big Game” program, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Lavrov, at the same time, Russia does not threaten the West with a harsh reaction to failure to fulfill its demands, but will react according to the situation.
“We still hope that the promises that were made now in Geneva and Brussels, and the promises concerned the fact that both the United States and NATO will put their proposals on paper. We explained to them very clearly and repeatedly that we need to have a clause-by-clause response to our documents. If some article, some provision of our proposals is not suitable, let them explain why and write it down on paper. If they come up with amendments, let them make these amendments in writing, too,” Lavrov said.
“If they want to exclude something or add something,” a similar request, “please write it on paper. And we gave our thoughts in writing a month ago, so there was enough time both in Washington and in Brussels. Both of them promised us that they would put their reaction on paper...
Speaking about the prospects of our reaction, I will say again - we will never wave a baton and demand in negotiations that if you do not do this, then we will beat you. We will respond to real developments,” the minister said.
