Lavrov: The EU is dancing to the tune of an aggressive Russophobic minority
EU business is forced to suffer from mutual sanctions with Russia and, in fact, maintain the regime in Kyiv at its own expense due to a small group of countries in the European Union taking an aggressive position against Moscow.
This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“About the unity of the European Union. I have already mentioned that there is a small but very aggressive group of countries that are setting everyone up for confrontation with Russia and for continuing sanctions until the “Minsk agreements are implemented by Moscow.” The ex-President of Ukraine Poroshenko used this, and the new Ukrainian authorities are now using this. They will not do anything, because without their actions the Minsk agreements will not be implemented, but the European Union, according to its logic, will maintain sanctions against Moscow. And Ukraine will receive some subsidies through Western assistance,” Lavrov is quoted as saying by the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
“This is no longer a practical policy, but some kind of obsession with sanctions. Although everyone knows that European business suffers from them losses amounting to many tens, if not hundreds of billions of euros. Thus, the Russophobic minority in the European Union is clearly speculating on the principle of consensus,” the minister emphasized.
“Many representatives of EU member states tell us in face-to-face conversations that they are against sanctions, that sanctions are harmful. But they have the principle of solidarity, the principle of consensus. In my understanding, consensus is the agreement of everyone. And if someone, and there are many, as we are told in bilateral contacts, is against sanctions, then there should be no consensus. In the meantime, it turns out that this Russophobic minority is actively, grossly abusing the rule of consensus in order to impose on everyone else the preservation of a completely artificial and absurd link between the sanctions regime and the implementation of the Minsk agreements,” Lavrov shared his reasoning.
