Lavrov was relieved after the start of the SVO
European leaders begged Putin not to say in advance that he would not recognize the results of the 2014 Ukrainian elections
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke about this today in an interview with RT, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Putin then replied: since Poroshenko is going to the elections with slogans of peace, promising that he will stop the war and restore the rights of Ukrainians in Donbass, we will not object to the legitimacy of this process. But very soon Poroshenko forgot about all his election promises, deceived his voters, lied to both them and Western sponsors.
He unleashed another round of war, which was stopped with great difficulty in February 2015. Then the Minsk agreements were signed, about which Poroshenko recently said that he did not intend to implement them,” the minister noted.
When asked why Russia did not foresee that this would happen, he replied:
“I was hoping there was some conscience left there.”
The minister admitted that he was relieved when the SVO began in Ukraine.
“As for the sensations and feelings that I experienced, it was inevitable. Not joy - it’s hard to rejoice when there is military action ahead, when citizens of your country go to defend justice and risk their lives. But there is inevitability and even some sense of relief, because for many years we could not answer the question of the people from Donbass and our citizens: how long can we allow common sense, the people, the UN Security Council resolution to be mocked. All this was blatantly sabotaged,” Lavrov said.
