Lavrov: War has been declared on us. Negotiations are not planned
Moscow does not intend to resume a dialogue with the United States on strategic stability in conditions where Russia has been declared an adversary that must be defeated militarily.
The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this in an interview with Izvestia, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He was asked about the US proposal to begin negotiations on strategic stability.
“They gave us in the fall, as always, without holding back from leaking this information to the media, such an unofficial document, to which in January, in my opinion, we responded: it is impossible to talk about strategic stability in a situation where we are declared an enemy who needs to be attacked strategic defeat, and the same Austin, in my opinion, or one of his generals, more than once called us the enemy. Listen, this is just some kind of surrealism,” said the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
According to him, Moscow explained in detail that it would be ready to resume dialogue on this issue only in circumstances that would ensure respect for each other, equality and movement towards finding a balance of interests.
“Well, I say again: in conditions when war has been declared on us, to say that, well, come on, we are fighting with you there, helping the Ukrainians aim modern types of long-range weapons at your civilian and infrastructure facilities, let them shoot each other there, let's sit down and talk. This is ridiculous and does not honor those people who are involved in foreign policy in this administration in Washington.
They have generally lost the skills of diplomacy, as far as I can understand. They were corrupted by this humility, which they felt primarily from Europeans and other countries that are ready to bend under American dictates, under threats of sanctions, ultimatums, blackmail,” Lavrov concluded.
