Lavrov accused Berlin and Paris of political dishonesty
The policies of France and Germany, which are guarantors of the implementation of the Minsk agreements, are evidence of diplomatic and political dishonesty.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this during a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In Ukraine there are colossal claims against our German and French colleagues. Hiding behind the five principles of the European Union, which state that everything will be fine with Russia as soon as Russia implements the Minsk agreements, borders on political and diplomatic dishonesty.
Because the statements made by the Ukrainian authorities should receive some kind of reaction from Berlin and Paris as co-authors of these very Minsk agreements within the Normandy format.
And statements - please, President Zelensky declares: “We first need to take control of the border, and then we will sort it out ourselves, without any of your Minsk agreements.” He and his Deputy Prime Minister say that they are long outdated, that these Minsk agreements are long overdue, that everything needs to be done in a new way.
Mr. Kravchuk, who was appointed chief negotiator in the Contact Group, where everything should be decided, recently disseminated some new initiative, which was already characterized by our negotiators as completely undermining the Minsk agreements and pursuing one single goal - to do nothing at any cost, but to gather for a new summit in the Normandy format.
Because there Zelensky apparently enjoys meeting with world leaders and creating the impression for his electorate that he knows and can do something. But this is all a replacement of the essence with external effects. This was the case under Poroshenko, and we don’t see any changes,” Lavrov said.
He also emphasized that as long as France and Germany do not do what they should, Moscow will consider them accomplices in disrupting the Minsk agreements.
“So, before indulging in such a campaign to undermine the Minsk agreements, it is necessary for Berlin and Paris to raise their voices and call for respect for what was said almost a year ago at the Paris summit of the Normandy format.
Until this is done, we will assume that Berlin and France are indulging in the destruction of what they created. This will be the second time they have betrayed their own agreements.
The first time was in February 2014, when Berlin, Paris and Warsaw witnessed and signed the protocol of settlement between President Yanukovych and the opposition, and in the morning the opposition spat in their faces and tore up their signatures. And representatives of the European Union simply wiped themselves off and recognized the illegal seizure of power through an armed anti-state coup,” the minister concluded.
