Lavrov explained why Moscow does not yet recognize the Republic of Donbass

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this in an interview with the Rossiya 1 TV channel, answering the question whether it’s time for Russia to recognize the Donbass republics.
According to the minister, deviation from the Minsk agreements will be “a colossal mistake”, and Kyiv strives to finally “break the Minsk agreements.”
“We, unlike some of our international colleagues, are still people of our word, and this word, especially when it became the subject of negotiations, and when it was approved by the [UN] Security Council, we always keep and fulfill. No one is canceling the Minsk agreements,” said the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
He also noted that whoever takes the first step to scrap the Minsk agreements will make a colossal mistake.
“As a matter of fact, the Kyiv authorities are one step away from this mistake. If they finally adopt the law on reintegration, which has now passed the second reading,” Lavrov warned.
According to him, in the West “the opinion is growing stronger about the need to bring some sense into President Poroshenko and those who are with him in the leadership of Ukraine.”
“According to our data, European emissaries who visit Kyiv convey such messages. And they strongly recommend that you understand the counterproductiveness of such approaches and make the necessary corrections in your actions. They cannot say this publicly yet. But, I think, if the current Kiev regime continues to behave this way, public statements will soon appear, since Europe is very wary of the processes taking place in Ukraine, especially with regard to the sharp increase in the influence of radicals and neo-Nazis,” Lavrov emphasized .
