During a conversation with Sergei Lavrov, Nikola Selakovic said that Belgrade is counting on the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Serbia this year. He also expressed gratitude to Russia for its role in preserving the territorial integrity of Serbia and resolving the situation around the Kosovo issue.

In turn, speaking about the Kosovo problem, Lavrov pointed to attempts to ignore UN Security Council Resolution 1244 on resolving the Kosovo problem, which are “very dangerous.”

Lavrov stressed that Russia is interested in further strengthening coordination with Serbian friends in the international arena, in European structures such as the OSCE and the Council of Europe. The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry called the ideas about “Greater Albania” promoted by Western politicians “unacceptable and harmful.”

“Negotiations on “Greater Albania” have been ongoing for several years, and we always call on our colleagues from the EU and NATO, who defend Pristina, to stop such sentiments and prevent the escalation of such rhetoric,” Lavrov noted.

Also, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry commented on the so-called "Slovenian non-official document" on the next redrawing of the borders of the post-Yugoslav space.

“As for the whole problem of borders in Europe, including the states that emerged on the site of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, let us only remember how our Western partners, including the EU and NATO, of which Slovenia is a member, are aggressively demanding that the post-war borders of Europe not be allowed to be revised , but they usually do this when Russia is forced to stand up for its fellow citizens, for its compatriots.

And when this issue has to be dealt with by those whom the West is looking after, the position in Brussels and European capitals is completely different. I think these are very dangerous games. Resolution 1244 exists, no one has repealed it, and responsible politicians, especially government leaders, do not have the right to express ideas that grossly undermine the very concept that is inherent in the very concept of Resolution 1244.

Serbia's sovereignty is respected by the UN Security Council, and the specific status of Kosovo is proposed to be sought in negotiations between Pristina and Belgrade. As President Putin has repeatedly said, we will support any decision that is acceptable to Serbia.”

When asked about the possible inclusion of Russia in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, Lavrov replied that Moscow is not imposing anything, but will be ready to respond to any proposal that comes from the Serbian leadership.
