“It is necessary to agree on what will be discussed there. The dates were given - their wish was April 17th. We are waiting for an explanation of what they are going to do at this meeting. Our position is simple: the crisis is internal to Ukraine, and those who are now in power in Kyiv must invite all regions and political forces to dialogue on the constitution, language and all other aspects.
Even if in the Verkhovna Rada the leader of one of the parliamentary parties is thrown off the podium, as you saw yesterday, and the West remains silent, believing that this is a manifestation of democracy and everything is correct, then it is very difficult to act.
We have not received a response to our inquiries regarding rumors of plans to sell ballistic missile technology. We asked the Americans what they thought about this - they were silent. They asked about Greystone and the presence, according to our data, of about 150 employees of this private military agency in the southern regions of Ukraine. They tell us that they see no reason for this to be true. Kind of a strange answer. Tell me - there is no one there. We are now clarifying these questions. There are other requests that they have not yet responded to,” the minister noted.
In addition, in his opinion, there is nothing to talk about with the new Kyiv authorities during the negotiations.
“If the meeting is dedicated to calling on the Ukrainian authorities not to wait until the south-eastern regions begin to be indignant (and they have already begun to do this), but to talk with them, then we will join such a call. After these people took power in Ukraine on February 22, they never visited there or spoke to them. According to them, in the Verkhovna Rada there is the Party of Regions and the Communist Party - and that’s enough. But that's not true. Many regions believe that those sitting in the Verkhovna Rada do not represent their interests. These are complex problems. If you try to call on Russia to start negotiations with Ukraine, then about what? They don't pay for gas. Arseniy Yatsenyuk once stated that the budget included a price of 485 euros - this is the price of the contract that Yulia Tymoshenko signed. And now they say that they will not pay until they agree with us on the price they want. So there are more questions than answers. But we are always ready for dialogue,” said Sergei Lavrov.
