Lavrov: Poroshenko acted despicably towards Zelensky
Petro Poroshenko, before leaving the post of president, tried to drive his successor into the strict framework of anti-Russian policy, says Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. He drew an analogy with the change of US presidents, where, according to the diplomat, Barack Obama did the same in relation to Donald Trump.
“The West remains silent about the laws adopted by Petro Alekseevich Poroshenko during his last “convulsions” before he left his post. Like Barack Obama before the arrival of Donald Trump, he decided to “totally” harm his replacement. A series of laws, which, apparently, according to Poroshenko’s calculations, should drive the new administration in Kyiv into a corner and not let it out of anti-Russian captivity. Some people probably think this is calculated. I believe that doing this in politics is despicable,” Lavrov is quoted as saying by the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
He announced an increase in the number of Russian citizens among Ukrainian residents.
“If the protection of Russian speakers, Russian culture, language is a policy, then in this case, we cannot escape this policy anywhere. Just as Europeans and Americans can hardly stop defending the rights of their compatriots who find themselves under threat. Moreover, in this case these are millions of our compatriots. They are citizens of Ukraine, but many of them are citizens of Russia. There will be more of them, given the decision made, formalized by presidential decree. In conditions when they are under a blockade declared by Petro Poroshenko, there is simply no other way to ensure their full rights,” Lavrov said.
