Lavrov demanded that Ukraine be brought to reason
Behind individual steps of the Ukrainian side, which can be noted as positive, there is a blank wall of Kyiv’s general conceptual approach to the Minsk agreements, which does not stand up to any criticism.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this at a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We fully support the need to implement all agreements reached in Paris, while this is far from the case. I agree that progress is needed from all sides – Kyiv, Donetsk and Lugansk.
But in this regard, we once again draw the attention of our German and French colleagues as participants in the Normandy format, co-authors of the Minsk agreements, to statements coming from Kiev: Deputy Prime Minister Reznikov, representing Kiev in one of the structures of the Contact Group, states that the Minsk agreements are outdated, the president Zelensky says that he wants it explained to him what these agreements mean, they say, each one needs to be deciphered, and Kravchuk, newly appointed chief negotiator in the Contact Group, publicly declares that Poroshenko signed them in vain, but nevertheless agrees to lead the process of their implementation. There’s a lot of strange things here,” Lavrov noted.
“I agree that we need to encourage in every possible way specific steps that are taking place “on the ground,” which are generally positive. But, firstly, they relate to a limited number of agreements, and secondly, let’s not “see the forest for these trees,” and the “forest” lies in Kiev’s general, philosophical, conceptual approach to the Minsk agreements and their status.
Here we very much hope that Germany and France will eventually bring some sense to their colleagues in Kyiv and explain to them that there is no alternative to work in full accordance with what is written in the Minsk agreements,” added the Foreign Ministry representative.
