Lavrov warned Kyiv that previous adventures ended in Ilovaisk and Debaltsevo
The Ukrainian authorities, if they really want peace in Donbass, should immediately stop armed provocations and begin to implement the agreements signed in Minsk.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this in an interview with Izvestia, noting the sharp deterioration of the situation in south-eastern Ukraine in recent days.
“There is a flagrant violation by Ukraine of its obligations under the Minsk agreements, which, apparently, it has no intention of fulfilling. Instead of efforts to achieve sustainable peace, the Kyiv authorities are persistently trying to achieve a military solution to the conflict. How this kind of adventure ended for them in 2014-2015 is well known,” the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry more than transparently hinted at the defeats of the Ukrainian group near Ilovaisk, at Donetsk airport and Debaltsevo.
“Kyiv’s actions confirm its reluctance to make a choice in favor of a peaceful solution to problems,” Lavrov believes. – In general, the question arises as to how the Ukrainian authorities see the path to peace in their country if they consistently destroy people whom they seem to consider fellow citizens. If the Kyiv rulers really want to resolve the conflict, they have only one way out: to immediately stop armed provocations, comply with the existing truce agreements and finally begin to implement all the provisions of the Minsk “Package of Measures,” including those related to the political aspects of the settlement.”
At the same time, the head of the Russian foreign policy department emphasized that there is no alternative to the Minsk agreements, which the West also agrees with.
“Our contacts with foreign partners, primarily in the Normandy Four, as well as with the United States, show that even with all the differences in views on the situation in Ukraine, we are united in the need for dialogue between the parties to the conflict in order to find agreement and compromise. As for the prospects, the “ball” — on the Kyiv side. No one behind the Ukrainian authorities is able to fulfill the political demands of the Minsk “Package of Measures” — adopt a law on special status, on holding local elections in Donbass, and carry out constitutional reform. We are talking about steps that are key to achieving peace in Ukraine,” Lavrov concluded.
