The publication reports that before their speeches on stage at the Mediterranean Dialogues conference in Rome, the politicians met in a small hall of the Parco dei Principi hotel along with UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura.
“The meeting lasted about an hour and Stampa can reproduce it,” writes the Italian newspaper. – The chosen meeting place was decent, the dialogues were direct, and no formal ceremonies were required. Kerry agreed in a conversation with his Russian interlocutor that Russia had won, and the Americans stated on the spot that the Syrian operation had fallen into the hands of Moscow. However, Kerry says, now is the moment of truth, Assad must make an obvious compromise, and the Russians must convince him, because otherwise it will mean that they will get Syria with all the ensuing consequences. Lavrov’s response is a lesson in diplomacy: Moscow is ready for a compromise, but, the foreign minister makes clear, it will make one with Trump. A curtain".
“The next scene opens in a crowded hall, where Lavrov gives an interview to the president of the Rai company, Monica Maggioni, and the director of Stampa, Maurizio Molinari,” the publication continues. – Putin’s minister is in excellent form, he is laconic, strict, but without attacks, jokes, wishes “health” to those sneezing in the stalls, suggests studying “Russian history” in order to better understand the Kremlin’s strategy. Maggioni asks him whether Russia, as a friend of Syria, will be ready for compromises. He answers negatively, explains that Moscow is primarily interested in ensuring that Syria does not fall under Libyan influence, and emphasizes that a compromise “should have been reached a long time ago.”
Molinari asks whether it is likely that the first agreement between Moscow and Trump will be reached on Syria, and Lavrov does not prevaricate. Russia is open to dialogue, he asserts: “If the new US presidential administration focuses on the fight against terrorism and wants to cooperate with Russia, we, of course, will be ready for this. During his election campaign, Trump said his main goal was to fight ISIS in Syria. When he assembles his foreign policy team, we will be able to look at this issue.”
Note that since the end of November, the Syrian army has captured approximately 60 percent of the territory of the besieged jihadist enclave in Aleppo. The territory liberated during these days on the map is circled with a yellow line, green, in the north-west, is the Kurdish enclave..
