Lavrov is pleasantly surprised by the EU’s reaction to Poroshenko’s hysteria
Yesterday's statements by the European Union on the situation in the Kerch Strait pleasantly surprised the Russian Foreign Ministry. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced this today at a press conference in Moscow.
“We have no illusions that the West has set its sights on unreservedly supporting President Poroshenko and his regime. Although yesterday’s calls from the European Union to both Russia and Ukraine to show restraint suggest certain thoughts. If an appeal is addressed to Ukraine on a par with Russia, it means that Kyiv, in the eyes of its Western sponsors, has done things that they do not approve of. I hope the Ukrainian authorities will draw the necessary conclusions from this,” Lavrov said.
On the other hand, he criticized the EU foreign policy service’s demand for Russia to stop inspections of ships in the Kerch Strait, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The EU is still trying to cling to some arguments that have no basis. This inspection is carried out in full accordance with existing agreements, including with Ukraine. It did not result in a single complaint from any of the inspected vessels. I would ask our colleagues in the European Union to pay attention to the factual side of the matter and not create problems where there are none,” Lavrov said.
