Lavrov acknowledged the “destructive effectiveness” of Ukrainian diplomacy
Ukraine blocked the adoption of the final document after a meeting of the foreign ministers of the OSCE member states in Italy.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced this at a press conference in Milan, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, although the topic of Ukraine was not on the list of issues that the ministers were supposed to consider, it still could not be avoided.
“A lot was said about Ukraine, and this has already become some kind of ritual for our Western partners - no matter what topic was discussed, they had to mention the Ukrainian crisis. We are not avoiding the discussion, but we urge everyone, instead of unfounded demands addressed, for some reason, to Russia, to get Kiev to fulfill its obligations under the Minsk package of measures, which was adopted in February 2015,” Lavrov said.
He also emphasized that the difference in positions in certain approaches has prevented the signing of the final document for 16 years.
“We sought to reflect support for the Minsk process in the final documents of the OSCE ministerial meeting, but the destructive position of Kyiv, which sought to saturate any document with absolutely unacceptable and fictitious ideas, did not allow us to adopt any document on this topic. We regret that once again it was not possible to adopt a general political declaration, the main final document that is planned every year, but the last time it was possible to adopt it only in 2002,” Lavrov said
