Lavrov set the final points on Donbass for the OSCE
Moscow insists on impartiality on the part of the OSCE when monitoring the entire territory of Ukraine and Donbass, and also calls for assistance in starting a direct dialogue between Kyiv and the LDPR, as required by the agreements.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this at a briefing following negotiations with the current OSCE Chairman, Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Lind, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The focus was on the role of the OSCE in resolving the Ukrainian crisis. We have emphasized that there is no alternative to the full, consistent, comprehensive implementation of the Minsk package of measures. And we proceed from the fact that the current chairmanship, including through its special representative in Ukraine and in the Contact Group, should promote direct dialogue between the parties to the conflict - Kyiv, Donetsk and Lugansk.
As required by the Minsk agreements, where the need to coordinate and find agreements between Kiev, Donetsk and Lugansk on issues such as the special status of these territories, holding elections and much more is written down in black and white.
Of course, we expect that the work of the OSCE will ensure impartiality when monitoring the situation throughout Ukraine, where the situation with human rights, especially of national minorities, linguistic and educational rights of minorities, in general, is very, very sad,” - Lavrov said.
He added that, despite calls to international organizations to cancel discriminatory decisions, “Kyiv continues to stubbornly stick to its line.”
“We do not observe a serious desire of our Western colleagues to stop these gross violations of both the Ukrainian Constitution and Kyiv’s numerous obligations under international and European conventions.
And, of course, the OSCE must work directly with Donetsk and Lugansk, without which it is impossible to ensure the necessary weight, the necessary authority of international observers in the eyes of the population of the republics, without which it is impossible to ensure the implementation of the Minsk agreements,” added the head of Russian diplomacy.
