Lavrov sharply responded to Volker’s anti-Russian attacks in Kyiv
The mandate of the UN peacekeeping mission, which US State Department Special Representative Kurt Volker announced yesterday in Kyiv, can be called an occupation. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this today at a meeting with representatives of European business in Moscow.

“He said that it is necessary for peacekeepers to occupy the entire Donbass and encircle it - he used a different word, but that’s the meaning. And only then will the United States support Poroshenko’s actions to fulfill all his obligations, including amnesty, special status and elections.
It is absolutely clear to us that as soon as the occupying forces occupy the entire Donbass, Poroshenko will not lift a finger to do anything,” Lavrov said.
He also called Volker’s statement about not allowing representatives of the LDPR to participate in the negotiations inadequate, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“He said that this is a matter for Europe, Ukraine and Russia. Donbass should not be allowed close to any negotiations. If this is considered adequate, I deeply regret it,” Lavrov said.
He also said that Volcker's proposals contradict the road map that is being developed in the Normandy format.
