As the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted, voting on the election of the leaders of the two republics, as well as deputies of the parliaments of the DPR and LPR, will be important from the point of view of legitimizing power.

“We believe that this is one of the most important areas of the Minsk agreements. We expect that the elections will take place as agreed, and we, of course, recognize their results. We hope that the expression of will will be free and no one from the outside will try to disrupt it,” Lavrov said.

Elections for the leadership of the DPR and LPR are scheduled for November 2. At the same time, Ukraine declares that it will not recognize them, since the Minsk agreements provide for local elections in accordance with the Ukrainian law “On the temporary order of local self-government in certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.” The Verkhovna Rada scheduled elections in these regions for December 7.

Elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on October 26 were held only in the territory controlled by the Ukrainian army. In other parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, voting was not held. In Kyiv, on this occasion, they emphasized that the deputy seats intended for single-mandate members from Donbass and Crimea in the new Rada will not be occupied.
