Lavrov made an important statement on the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict
Russia opposes any attempt to change the composition of the negotiating group to resolve the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and also demands compliance with the truce between the parties.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this at a briefing following a meeting with the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Jeyran Bayramov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Lavrov stressed that representatives of the Minsk Group for conflict resolution plan to visit Baku and Yerevan in the near future.
“The base has been developed quite seriously and it would be sad to lose this base. Unfortunately, we have seen such attempts, including attempts to change the composition of the negotiators, which is unacceptable to the co-chairs. And we stated this publicly. But more intensive negotiations would certainly not hurt. The co-chairs planned to at least visit the region next month - Baku and Yerevan.
It was planned at some stage to organize another contact between the foreign ministers with the help of the co-chairs. In order for all these plans to take place, we talked about this today, of course, it is necessary to normalize the situation, including the cessation of any incidents not in the area of Karabakh and adjacent areas, but in the area directly on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border. We very much hope that what happened in July will not happen again, and we, together with other interested countries, with friends of Azerbaijan and Armenia, will contribute in every possible way to this,” Lavrov said.
Let us recall that earlier the United States announced a possible replacement of its representative in the OSCE Minsk Group for the settlement of the Karabakh conflict, where they, together with France and Russia, are co-chairs.
PolitNavigator also reported that at noon on July 12, on the border of the Tovush region of Armenia and the Tovuz region of Azerbaijan an armed conflict occurred, there are killed and wounded.
After that in Moscow Clashes broke out between Armenians and Azerbaijanis, who were promptly stopped by security forces.
Russian military expert Alexander Zapolskis said the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh can only be resolved by returning all these territories to Russia.
