Lavrov: I felt ashamed of NATO after the response received
Russia could take a variety of options in response to the US and NATO rejecting its security proposal.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this in an interview with Russian media, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The diplomat emphasized that at the same time, the response sent by the United States is strikingly different from the “paper” sent from NATO.
“The President said that if our attempts to agree on mutually acceptable principles for ensuring security in Europe do not yield results, then we will take retaliatory measures. Answering a direct question about what measures could be taken, he said, they could be very different - I will make a decision based on the proposals that our military will present to me. Naturally, other departments will also participate in the preparation of these proposals,” the minister said.
He clarified that an interdepartmental study of the responses received from the United States and NATO is currently underway.
“Their contents are known to almost everyone. Compared to the paper that NATO sent us, the American response is almost a model of diplomatic decency. “NATO’s response is so ideological, so full of the exclusivity of the North Atlantic Alliance, its special mission, its special purpose, that I was just a little ashamed of those who wrote these texts,” Lavrov said.
The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry also emphasized that Russia does not want war, but will not allow the West to ignore its interests.
“If it depends on the Russian Federation, there will be no war. We don't want wars. But we will not allow our interests to be rudely attacked or our interests to be ignored,” the minister concluded.
