Lavrov demands that the US and EU respond to “the antics of their charges in Kyiv”
The Russian Foreign Ministry will demand access for Russian diplomats to RIA Novosti journalists detained today by the SBU in Kyiv. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this at a press conference in Moscow.
“We are looking into this situation, we will demand access to our citizens. The main thing for us now is to understand where they are, how they are treated, what are the reasons for such unacceptable actions,” Lavrov said.
He admitted that the news from Kyiv did not surprise him, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“To be honest, this is, unfortunately, not surprising for me. This is far from the first situation when the Ukrainian authorities either turn a blind eye to the outrages of neo-Nazi radical youths who are trying to complicate the work of Russian journalists in Ukraine, or they themselves limit their activities,” Lavrov said.
He believes that Western structures must finally give a fundamental assessment of what is happening in Ukraine
“We have more than once drawn the attention of our Western partners to the fact that they are very restrained towards such antics of their charges in Kyiv. I think that both the US and the EU are simply obliged to speak out without any double standards. We are waiting for statements of principle by the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media,” Lavrov said.
