“When the Comoros Islands voted to choose their destiny, they all voted for independence - except for the island of Mallorca. And the condition was voting on the basis of a simple majority. The French said: since the population wants it this way, we maintain our dominion over this island. There were several resolutions of the UN General Assembly that demanded that France accept the results of the referendum. The French ignored this. When I gave this example, the French ambassador said: you are again starting to compare incomparable things,” Lavrov said, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
At the same time, the minister noted, in Europe they are questioning the Crimean referendum because it was allegedly held “in a hurry,” but they allow an EU member state to ignore the results of the referendum, which was held according to all the rules.
