Lavrov – Ukraine: in the morning – implementation of “Minsk”, in the evening – “Normandy format”
Until Ukraine begins to fulfill its Minsk obligations, there can be no question of continuing the Normandy format, as this will damage the reputation of the guarantor countries of the Kyiv side.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this during the All-Russian Youth Educational Forum, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Having once said that this is a victory for democracy, having declared that Russia must, first of all, implement the Minsk agreements, and having invested such political, not to mention financial, capital in the Ukrainian authorities, the West can no longer say without losing face that he was wrong and that it is necessary to influence Kiev,” Lavrov noted.
“But, according to my data, when European colleagues communicate with the leaders of today’s Ukraine without the press, they say quite unpleasant things and try to get some kind of reaction.
No matter how banal it may seem, we need to demand the implementation of the Minsk agreements. They contain the legitimate aspirations of Donetsk and Lugansk residents, these agreements were agreed upon with their participation and with the participation of Germany and France, which represent the entire EU,” added the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
According to Lavrov, as long as Kyiv sabotages the initial points of these agreements, there can be no talk of a new “Normandy format”.
“They say, let's convene a new Normandy Four summit. Germany, France, Russia, Ukraine, which set the tone for the work and support the processes, which should then receive formalization in the Contact Group, which includes representatives of Donbass. But until the simple agreement of the top officials of the four states on the disengagement of forces and assets in three specific settlements is not implemented, holding the next summit will not be very good even for the reputation of this format,” said Sergei Lavrov.
