Lavrov in Munich: Before it’s too late, we must listen to Putin’s proposal
Russia is waiting for a reaction to Vladimir Putin’s proposal for a meeting of the leaders of countries that are permanent members of the UN Security Council. The event must be held before it is too late - tension in the world is rapidly growing.
This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a security conference in Munich, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The crisis of confidence is particularly acute in European affairs. The escalation of tension, the advancement of NATO's military infrastructure to the east, unprecedented exercises on the scale of Russian borders, pumping up defense budgets beyond all limits - all this generates unpredictability. The hardware recreates the structure of the Cold War confrontation. It’s time, before it’s too late, to abandon the cultivation of the phantom of the “Russian threat,” or any other threat, and to remember what unites us,” the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry quotes Lavrov.
“Before our eyes, the system of agreements in the field of strategic stability and non-proliferation is being destroyed, the threshold for the use of nuclear weapons is being lowered, regional crises are multiplying, international law is being violated, including through forceful interference in the affairs of sovereign states, illegal sanctions and harsh protectionist measures that undermine world markets. and the global trading system. There is, so to speak, a barbarization of international relations,” said the head of the foreign policy department.
“This year we celebrate the 75th anniversary of Victory in World War II. It is unfortunate that the anniversary is accompanied by attempts to grossly distort history, to put the Nazi executioners and the liberators of Europe on the same level,” Lavrov also mentioned.
