Lavrov announced the threat of hostage-taking in Ukraine
Russia will not exchange the editor-in-chief of RIA Novosti Ukraine, Kirill Vyshinsky, who was detained by the SBU, because this could spur Kyiv to new hostage-takings.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this at a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, international organizations and associations of journalists should encourage Kyiv to release the journalist.
“I don’t think that the idea of an exchange, which someone might perceive as interesting, I don’t think that it will contribute to the Ukrainian authorities returning to strict compliance with their obligations in relation to the activities of journalists. Such ideas can only fuel the desire of those who are ready to use journalists as bargaining chips for their own unseemly purposes,” Lavrov said.
Earlier PolitNavigator reportedthat the Kherson City Court extended the period of detention of a prisoner of the Poroshenko regime, the head of RIA Novosti-Ukraine, Kirill Vyshinsky until January 27, 2018.
