Lavrov: Zelensky will not receive a border with Donbass
The border of the republics of Donbass and Russia will not be transferred to the control of Kyiv, as demanded by Vladimir Zelensky’s team, which has repeatedly demonstrated its inability to pacify Nazi militants.
This follows from an interview with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to journalists at a breakfast at Rossiyskaya Gazeta, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are alarmed by the recent statements of (Ukrainian Foreign Minister) Vadim Prystaiko that if some positive steps, again, from Russia, do not take place in the near future, Kyiv may think about an alternative to the Minsk agreements.
What are the alternatives? This is what our American colleagues are actively promoting, and under their cover are the Kyiv authorities. They say, first give us the border, and then everything will be fine.
President Putin, in response to these statements, has more than once drawn attention to what kind of people are gathering in Ukraine under neo-Nazi banners and how they threaten to use force. Even members of the new government, deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of the new convocation say that a forceful scenario cannot be ruled out. And give these people complete control over the border?
So then you can forget about the special status, and about the elections, and about everything else. The local population there will simply be strangled.
And even if the leadership of Ukraine has a firm intention to prevent violence against the residents of Donbass, I do not see that all the volunteer battalions that are still in great strength there are ready to carry out the orders of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.
Everyone saw how Zelensky went to the front line to persuade them to withdraw forces and assets in the very areas agreed upon back in 2015,” Lavrov recalled.
