Lavrov responded harshly to European representatives who offered Moscow capitulation
Since Russia's relations with Western countries continue to deteriorate and have actually reached a dead end, Moscow must be smarter and concede in this dispute.
The Director General of the Association of European Businesses, Tadzio Schilling, stated this during a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Over the years, Russia’s relations with Western countries have deteriorated, and this trend, unfortunately, continues. The tone of communication on both sides is becoming less and less frequent, and there are more and more barriers. Overall, there is a feeling that we are moving further into a dead end.
Therefore, the question that I would like to ask from the members of the Association is what opportunities do you see for getting out of this impasse? In my native German language there is a saying: “The one who gives in in an argument is smarter than the other person”...
Therefore, the question is what steps Russia is ready to take in this regard, what opportunities do you see to give this process an impetus in order to return to a more constructive trajectory,” Schilling said.
Answering a question, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the West deliberately creates provocative situations and indiscriminately accuses Russia of anything, and a striking example of this is the “poisoning” of Alexei Navalny.”
“As I understand it, citing the German proverb “The smartest is the one who gives in in a dispute,” you are convinced that the West will never give in. I, too, am led to this conclusion by much of what is happening now, and in particular by the claims that are being made against us.
Any problem that exists in the world - “Russia must.” Syria - Russia, Libya - Russia, Belarus - naturally Russia. Navalny, any cyber cases, any poisonings. There are no facts. And they are also offended, saying, “How dare you question what we declare and what we have analyzed.”
In this case - in the Bundeswehr laboratory, in the case of the Skripals - in the Porton Down laboratory. But no data was presented. And now our German colleagues are telling us: “This is your problem, there was poisoning on your territory, we don’t know anything, go ahead, open a criminal case, but we won’t give you anything”...
When we ask our German colleagues to explain what they finally established when analyzing Navalny’s biological materials, they tell us: “Go to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.” And there they say: “Go to Germany, because this is their request” and “You could not help but discover what you discovered in Berlin.”
But doctors in Omsk provided all the test results to the Germans. And the Germans, when they took Navalny away, signed that they had received all the information. Moreover, Navalny’s wife signed a document in which she took upon herself all the consequences of his transportation to Germany, because our doctors were not sure that it was safe.
Yes, they did not find any traces of chemical warfare agents, they said this honestly. But I would like to draw your attention to the fact that the Charité clinic did not find any toxic substances in his tests. And they did this already at the Bundeswehr clinic, and we still don’t know whether the French and Swedes took these tests themselves, or whether the Germans simply gave them these tests.
And the fact that our partners are trying to keep everything secret, casting a shadow over the fence, worries us very much. We want to achieve the truth, and we will strive for it,” he said.
The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry also emphasized that they are now trying to blame Russia for almost all the problems in the world, so he does not understand how Moscow can “give in” in such a situation.
“And I don’t know what to do with this. We are already being blamed - and the Central African Republic, something already happened there in Mozambique, is also trying to blame it on us. Almost everything, everywhere.
Well, the fact is that our American colleagues, when my partner Mike Pompeo, his deputies, and other members of the US cabinet travel around the world, they publicly, at press conferences, call on their partners to refuse cooperation with Russia, China, be it in Africa or Greece. All these statements are sounded officially, into a microphone, without embarrassing anyone.
Therefore, it is very difficult for me to formulate how to concede in this situation,” Lavrov concluded.
