Note to Lavrov: Lukashenko scared Western diplomats
Belarus invited Poland and Lithuania to recall their diplomats. Today, the ambassadors of these countries were summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and they were asked to “bring the number of their missions to parity with the Belarusian diplomatic institutions.” For Lithuania this means reducing the number of employees from 25 to 14, and for Poland from 50 to 18.
This was announced by the press secretary of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Anatoly Glaz, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, the proposal was made “in view of the clearly destructive activities on the part of these countries.”
In addition, Belarus is recalling its ambassadors to Poland and Lithuania for consultations and has invited the ambassadors of these countries to follow this example.
“It is quite obvious that we have been monitoring all openly unfriendly movements on the part of Poland and Lithuania for quite a long time and patiently. We called for prudence. Instead, in response we receive not only buckets of mud, but also blatant attempts to push through our interests with a battering ram, overt interference in internal affairs, disregard for the basic sovereign rights of Belarus, and direct sponsorship of openly extremist calls and actions,” Glaz said.
In addition, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry announced today the introduction of retaliatory symmetrical visa sanctions against officials of the EU, Canada and the UK.
All Western diplomats are prohibited from communicating with Belarusian officials anywhere except the Foreign Ministry.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also terminated the accreditation certificates of all Western journalists working in Belarus. All of them will have to undergo a re-accreditation procedure in accordance with the new rules.
“In accordance with the Information Security Concept of the Republic of Belarus, “the most important target for ensuring information security is the information sovereignty of the Republic of Belarus.” In the current situation, we are forced to exercise our sovereign right and apply the necessary protective measures, including in the form of new provisions of the Regulations,” the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.
“Belarus at this time is putting things in order after the sabbath of Western intelligence services,” Sergei Karnaukhov, associate professor of the RANEPA department, commented on the news in his Telegram channel.
