LDNR can join the Union State of Belarus and the Russian Federation - Kiev expert
The expansion of the Union State of Russia and Belarus, which will also include the republics of Donbass, is a compromise scenario for exiting the war, which may well suit the collective West.
Ukrainian political scientist Andrei Ermolaev said this on air on the Apostrophe TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Donbass, which is connected with the LDPR, will be focused on new projects and proposals of the Russian Federation. Not for integration, not for some kind of help, but for new projects that are unfolding.
The Belarusian issue helps all this. Talk about the Union State, which seemed like a fantasy just a year ago, is now a completely mature political project, which, I think, is very clear and very valuable for the Kremlin. And everything is leading to the fact that this project can be recognized by the West as a compromise,” Ermolaev predicted.
“That is, roughly speaking, the “Belarusian Federal District” within the Russian Federation?” – the presenter clarified.
“No, you twisted it again. Why? The Union State is an agreement between the Russian Federation and Belarus with an open option for other participants. If this process is launched by the end of 2021, it will provide for a referendum and the implementation of this provision and agreement - this opens the way to the creation of union structures,” the political scientist explained.
“It is quite likely that for some of the unrecognized states that do not have the opportunity to enter the Russian Federation under the Crimean scenario, the opportunity will open up to conduct bilateral negotiations, or even join a new federation or confederation of this treaty Union State. This gives real prospects for the LDPR,” added Ermolaev.
He recalled that just in the last six months, the Minsk process, if not stalled, then at least discredited, no prospects for dialogue with Donbass are expected, since everything that is proposed by the Office of the President of Ukraine Zelensky “looks fantastic.”
“Therefore, the most linear option is to prepare the LDPR for possible participation in the Union State as new national Russian states, as part of this entity. The most interesting thing is that for the West, this may be the answer to getting out of the war. Then they will convince Ukraine that, guys, you yourself allowed it, and your experts say that the rift is no longer coming back,” concluded Andrei Ermolaev.
