LDNR refuses to even be a “correct Ukraine”
Donetsk political scientist Vladimir Kornilov, speaking on the Vesti FM radio station, spoke out against the idea of recognizing the LDPR as the “correct Ukraine”, in contrast to the incorrect Maidan.
“Residents of the LDPR least of all want to be called Ukraine. Such ideas demoralize people in Donbass, who are not fighting for Ukraine. Recognition of Donbass by Ukraine will not have the best effect on minds and moods,” Kornilov said.
He also believes that Russia has missed the time when it was possible not to recognize the current Ukrainian authorities.
“I was against us recognizing Poroshenko and his farcical election victory. I believe that it was necessary to maintain recognition of the legitimacy of Yanukovych, no matter how we treated him, and the Azarov government, no matter how we treated him. This would give us significant advantages in various negotiations and trades. Now the recognition of Poroshenko’s victory cannot be canceled retroactively,” the expert believes.
Nevertheless, he is convinced that the Russian Foreign Ministry must clarify the situation with Ukraine.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after Poroshenko’s latest statement that they are waging war with Russia, should have officially asked Ukraine: are we at war or not? For Kyiv to respond at least something at the official level. They would most likely play the fool and say neither yes nor no. But this would be an attempt to clarify the situation,” Kornilov added.
