“The ice has broken” – Zatulin on Russian citizenship for Ukrainians
The Russian government has come to understand the need to simplify the conditions for issuing citizenship to Russian compatriots.
Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Konstantin Zatulin stated this on the radio “Komsomolskaya Pravda”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“In our Duma, an invisible struggle continued, unnoticeable to the general public, for the adoption of laws on citizenship that would make it easier for our compatriots to obtain it. I can’t say that at the end of the year we achieved very great success, but, in any case, the ice has broken,” said the parliamentarian.
He recalled that after 2014, 2.5 million Ukrainian citizens entered Russia, half of whom currently do not have any status other than the status of a foreigner who entered the country with a visa-free visa, who on the 91st day must leave the Russian Federation on the next three months.
“And that’s how he goes back and forth. When it comes to a country that does not have problems like Ukraine, it is still possible to somehow explain this system. But when it comes to people from Ukraine, it is very difficult to explain, because these people have nowhere to go - they came to Russia because they do not want to be drafted into the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Ukraine, to be responsible for their views or for the fact that they speak Russian and so on.
We say: let’s make this preference just for them, for the citizens of Ukraine. Firstly, let's say that they should not leave after 90 days, and if there is a problem, to ensure that they are actually well behaved and are in our country, and there are no claims against them, they are on the 91- On the th day they come here in Russia to the relevant body and say: we are here. They give them a stamp, and they move on and live here. Because there are motivated reasons for the fact that they cannot leave back (from Ukraine – ed.), “explained Zatulin.
