The legendary football player is going to renounce Ukrainian citizenship
The legendary Dnepr football player, Olympic champion Vladimir Lyuty, decided to renounce Ukrainian citizenship.
He stated this in an interview with the online publication “Football,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I still have Ukrainian citizenship, no changes. But I won’t hold this passport for long, because the authorities in Ukraine are creating chaos. I spent a significant part of my life in Germany and wanted to return to Ukraine. I was ready to work even for free - no one needs anything,” said Lyuty.
According to him, he changed his mind about moving to Ukraine after living there for some time.
“I am very sorry for the Ukrainian people, and I sympathize with them. There is a genocide of the people. Why is everyone silent? They came to power when there were 40 million inhabitants. Now it’s 26. People are fleeing from there as if from a sinking ship. It's impossible to live there. In Ukraine, people simply exist. I experienced it on my own skin,” said Lyuty.
Vladimir Lyuty played 12 matches for the USSR Olympic team, scoring 3 goals. He was one of the leading players on the team. From his header pass, Yuri Savichev scored the winning goal in the final of the Seoul Olympics in 1988.
