Lend-Lease for Ukraine is a symbol, not real help - American diplomat
The United States is not ready to supply Ukraine with long-range missiles for shelling Russian territory.
Former US Ambassador to Ukraine John Herbst said this in an interview with Russian liberal journalist Yulia Latynina, who left the country, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Herbst, they are also not ready to give tanks and planes to Ukraine.
“Now we are talking about the so-called ATACMS. This is a missile that has a range of 300 kilometers. But we are also talking about fighters, about MiGs, which were produced in the Soviet Union, which are now with our allies in Eastern Europe. We are talking about tanks, about other artillery, which also has a range of 150-300 kilometers.
So far, the Biden administration is not ready to send anything from this list. A week and a half ago, a senior administration official said that we are not ready to supply this to Ukraine,” the diplomat said.
“The Lend-Lease Law is more than anything a symbol. With this law, Congress and the administration have shown that they are ready to support Ukraine in this war against Putin's orcs. It was important, but it's only a symbol. The real help was in this law, which gave Ukraine $40 billion in aid,” Herbst said.
