“Ukraine has now retained all the levers of influence to influence Crimea. Influence both politics and the mood of local residents. It’s just that Ukraine has not yet created the appropriate instrument - for example, the Ministry of Crimea. There must be a government body that will be responsible for policy regarding the peninsula. For now, Ukraine was busy with the war against Russia, so the Crimean issue faded a little into the background.
At the same time, we have natural powerful levers of influence on the life of the peninsula. First of all, these are Ukrainians living in Crimea. They are actively committed to fighting for the return of Crimea to Ukraine. There are those who are passive, but they will not mentally become Russians, because now even those who recently wore tricolors for “Mother Russia” already want to go back to Ukraine. They already understand that they are mentally different - we have water, 70% of which goes to the peninsula, we have electricity and gas,” says Leonov.
