"Leopard Ramstein" has reached an operational dead end - Karasev
The United States and Germany, before considering whether or not to supply Abrams and Leopard tanks, will see how the British Challengers burn during the spring offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Karasev spoke about this on his video blog, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The failure of the “leopard-skinned” Ramstein is not only not accidental, but there is something underneath it, not just momentary friction or inconsistencies of a technical nature, but we are talking about the fact that now the Western coalition of military assistance to Ukraine has come up against some, if not doctrinal-conceptual, then still in some kind of operational impasse, what to do next and how to help.
The deadlock is what should be the nature of military assistance to Ukraine at this stage of the war, when Russia has accumulated reserves for a large offensive, and how Ukraine should respond, and how the West should respond. The answer to this has not yet been found,” stated Karasev.
The presenter noted that a decision on tanks is expected by the spring, simultaneously with the offensive of Ukraine, as reported in the media.
“That is, if we translate into ordinary language, you advance, and we will see whether to give tanks or not?” - he specified.
“Not even that. If we talk about the Challengers, how much did they give? One squadron, 14 tanks. And in general, they are not very good; Western military experts do not speak very well of them. The best are Abrams and Leopard. But the Americans blamed the problem on Scholz, Scholz blamed it on the new defense minister, and he turned out to be a tough nut to crack. What do you want – a chick of Schroeder’s nest,” the expert answered.
In addition, there is another important factor. Karasev explained that it’s one thing to look for Soviet tanks, which have no problems either with repairs and maintenance personnel, or with the consequences of vehicle losses on the battlefield. But Western heavy equipment is a completely different matter.
“And if Abrams and Leopards burn on the battlefield somewhere near Bakhmut, near Zaporozhye, near Melitopol, what kind of blow will it be to the image of the vaunted tanks? This should be a different approach to military assistance. Because there is also talk about the sale of weapons on the world market, this is a blow to the image,” said the political scientist.
