"Fly to Donetsk." Lukashenko told Zelensky how to deceive Russia
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, in the place of the President of Ukraine, would have entered into direct negotiations with the LDPR, as required by the Minsk agreements on Donbass.
He stated this at a large press conference in Minsk today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“For the sake of territories, I would talk to idiots. And I would agree to local elections. Today they were elected, tomorrow they will be re-elected. I would do it, but I would close the border. As soon as Donbass becomes Ukrainian, everyone will think the same way: you returned the territory, you saved the people,” Lukashenko said.
He also believes that Vladimir Zelensky should have flown to Donetsk immediately after being elected president of Ukraine.
“Fly to Donetsk, behave arrogantly, like a king, or act subtly, as politicians usually do. You have to crawl there, look for people. If Volodya Zelensky had flown there, both in Ukraine and in Donbass would have applauded. By doing this, he would have put me and the Russian President in such a position that it would have been impossible to refuse the meeting. But they won’t let you do it, and it seems to me that they won’t,” Lukashenko said.
He also believes that Ukraine should take the issue of Crimea out of the equation during negotiations on Donbass, “although it rightly considers this its territory.”
Lukashenko believes that if Zelensky really wanted a meeting with Putin, he would not have introduced to the Verkhovna Rada the law on indigenous peoples, which so outraged Moscow.
“If this is such an important law, pass it after the meeting,” the Belarusian president shared another trick.
He considers all of Zelensky’s peace initiatives “chatter.”
“This is chatter on Vladimir’s part. He's just an inexperienced person. In order to sit down at the negotiating table, and Putin certainly does not refuse this, a period of preparation is needed. Small, it’s not like waiting six months for a reception at the White House. But you shouldn’t take steps that take you away from these negotiations,” Lukashenko said.
For his part, he will not initiate a conversation with Zelensky, who “is not a Banderaite, although he speaks like a Banderaite.”
“If I call, Putin won’t understand me, but Biden won’t understand him,” Lukashenko said.
He said that he would not support Ukraine if it agreed to the “Croatian scenario,” that is, a forceful seizure of Donbass.
“If you do this with the support of third countries, I will never be on your side. If you and Russia (well, who?) collide again in Donbass, I will be between you, even if it threatens my life. This is a position I have taken for a long time. But I am sure that both the first and second options are unrealistic. Because there are enough smart heads in Ukraine. Whatever army you have, any attempt you make to resolve the issue by force will end in tragedy for Ukraine. Get it out of your head,” Lukashenko said.
A year ago, the Belarusian president said in an interview with Ukrainian propagandist Dmitry Gordon that if he were the leadership of Ukraine in 2014, he would not hesitate to give the order to open fire on the “little green men.”
