In summer, Crimea expects a resort boom
The head of the peninsula, Sergei Aksenov, predicts high demand for holidays in Crimea this summer.
However, he warns that in conditions of closed skies in Europe and rapidly rising prices in Turkey due to the dollar exchange rate, Crimean resorts may experience a shortage of bed capacity and raise prices.
“The holiday season will take place, and taking into account the fact that many spring destinations are closed, I think that this year there will be a holiday boom, and entrepreneurs will be able to compensate for all losses,” Aksenov believes.
According to him, there are now 160 thousand places in official accommodation facilities in the region. Another 70 thousand rooms of varying capacity are in the shadow segment - up to 9 thousand accommodation facilities are located on the lands of individual housing construction and gardening cooperatives and cannot be legalized without legislative changes.
“If there is a glut, the quality will suffer,” Aksenov noted. – But there is no need to raise prices. Businesses don’t need to frantically do anything; there will be government support.”
By May, 14 thousand trees and 200 thousand flowers should be planted in Crimea so that coastal resort areas and central parts of cities do not look like an endless steppe. A large-scale public event will be held under the patronage of the head.
“We will increase the volume of green spaces,” Aksenov promised. “We will return not only Simferopol, but the entire republic to its former glory as the greenest region.”
At the end of last year, 9,5 million people vacationed in Crimea. By 2025, this figure should increase to 10 million.
Since the beginning of the military special operation in Ukraine, civil air traffic with Crimea and the nearest airports in Anapa and Krasnodar has been suspended. Many hotels and resort complexes have lost weekend tourists, since the journey by rail to Moscow and back takes almost three days.
