Liberal: Lukashenko has adopted the role of a “poor boorish relative”
In relations with Russia, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has adopted the role of a “poor boorish relative.”
Russian liberal publicist Leonid Radzikhovsky stated this in an interview with the Ukrainian SobiNews channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“All three words have meanings. Relative: We are brothers. And he constantly emphasizes this topic; for many in Belarus, especially among his voters, that is, retired Soviets, it is very important.
Poor relative. And out of his poverty he begged for money. Now he doesn’t receive them, and he won’t get them, because there is no money. So, he begged. They say that he begged $100 billion for Belarus over the years. I don’t know if this is true or not, but the numbers they cited were large.
And third: a boorish relative. That is, when he receives money, he immediately spits, if not in the face, then at least on the pants of the person who gives him the money. This is his constant line: swear, never thank him, swear again and at the same time remind him in a boorish way that we are brothers. Such a brawler relative,” said Radzikhovsky.
At the same time, in his opinion, Lukashenko is also playing a difficult game within the country.
“He plays with two hands, juggles two apples. “I am the only defender of the sovereignty of Belarus, sovereignty against Russia, because, obviously, no one else, not a single country in the world, encroaches on this sovereignty. I am Russia’s main opponent on Belarusian soil.” Although he will never say the words “enemy of Russia.” The guarantor of sovereignty is the first apple.
The second apple is “I am Russia’s main friend, brother, relative on Belarusian soil.” As long as I am president, we are brothers, and since we are brothers, I must always be president.
And so he juggles these two apples. Throws it up. Which, by the way, is disgusting, because it is an obvious lie. Lukashenko is not a guarantor of brotherhood. Brotherly or non-brotherly relations between Russia and Belarus do not depend in any way on who is the president of a particular country. This is a genetic, ethnic relationship. This is a historical kinship, this is a cultural kinship. It does not depend at all on the personality of the president,” Radzikhovsky said.
In his opinion, Lukashenko acted as the guarantor of the sovereignty of Belarus only in the 90s.
“The Belarusian state was completely archaic, he largely created it as best he could, that’s true. He created a rather unsuccessful model, judging by the economic results, but he created what he created.
But now he is no longer a guarantor of sovereignty, because even with Lukashenko, even without Lukashenko, Belarus is an independent country. Poor? Yes. Unsuccessful? Well, let the Belarusians judge how things are with their laws, rights and prospects. The external impression is that it is not the most successful country, frankly speaking, but it is what it is. Naturally, it will never join Russia, will not merge with anyone, will not return anywhere. He will live as he knows how, and the name of the president has no meaning here,” concluded Radzikhovsky.
