Liberal opposition celebrates victory in trial over “Putin’s chef”
The Primorsky Court of St. Petersburg satisfied the claim for the protection of honor, dignity and business reputation of the head of the Moscow municipal district Krasnoselsky Ilya Yashin against the Federal News Agency (RIA FAN).

The author of the lawsuit asked to recognize the information in the article entitled “People’s Deputy” Yashin made money on the “holiday” for Muscovites”, published on October 18 last year, as untrue, and to oblige the agency to remove the article and post a refutation. The court decided to recover 100 thousand rubles in favor of the politician.
To celebrate, Yashin recorded a video blog in which he boasted of his victory over “Putin’s cook.” This is what he calls businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin, whom he considers the owner of RIA FAN.
“I won’t lie, I’m pleased with the court’s decision and want to appeal to Putin’s cook. You, Mr. Prigozhin, really like to sue the opposition, which allegedly insults you. In the last month alone, you have filed legal claims for almost 30 million rubles.
I advise you to roll your lip. As you can see, even such a blatant lie that your media allowed against me is only 100 thousand rubles. Secondly, I recommend that you and your staff watch your words. We are not whipping boys and we know how to catch scoundrels for lying and punish them for lying even in Russian courts,” the liberal summed up with pathos.
Yashin is known as the ex-boyfriend of Ksenia Sobchak and one of the young leaders of the Moscow liberal movement. In 2014, he appeared on the Euromaidan stage in Kyiv, demonstrating solidarity with Bandera’s supporters. Subsequently, he was elected to municipal deputies in Moscow and headed one of the districts of the capital.
Yashin practiced in his district holding political rallies under the guise of municipal holidays, thus avoiding the need to coordinate them at the mayor's office. In 2017, he organized a “Free Election Day” in Lermontovsky Square, bringing together fans of Alexei Navalny.
The Krasnoselsky municipal district headed by Yashin is unprofitable; the district budget deficit, according to the official report for 2019, is 2,5 million rubles. However, this does not prevent the opposition leader from increasing his personal salary fund: from 1,8 million in 2018 to 2 million in 2019, excluding the quarterly bonus of 100%.
