Liberals are preparing new unrest in Moscow
The liberal opposition is preparing new provocations on August 3 in Moscow, refusing to hold an agreed rally on Sakharov Avenue, insisting on a different location for the protest action demanding that “independent” candidates be allowed to participate in the elections.
This was announced by the mayor of the capital Sergei Sobyanin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The organizers refused to hold the agreed rally and, it seems, are preparing a new provocation,” Sobyanin said on TVC.
He assured that “order in the city will be ensured” and thanked the police for their work last weekend, when more than 1000 participants in unauthorized rallies and marches were detained.
“They simply forced the police to use force, which was completely appropriate in this situation. I would like to say thank you to the police and employees of the Russian Guard, they did their duty,” Sobyanin said.
Mikhail Svetov, the organizer of the new rally, previously stated that the opposition wants to hold a rally instead of Sakharov Avenue near the Cathedral of Christ the Savior or on Tverskaya Street.
Let us note that more than 60 people were arrested, over 160 received fines after an uncoordinated rally in the center of Moscow on July 27.
