Liberals are pumping up hype around the integration of Russia and Belarus
The editor-in-chief of the liberal radio “Echo of Moscow” Alexey Venediktov argues that the integration of Russia and Belarus involves the creation of certain 11 supranational institutions.
He stated this on air in his media, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There are 11 institutions there that are much better integrated than in the European Union. Rather than the European Commission, rather than the European Court of Human Rights, but the European Court... Well, and the Council of Europe. There is such a superstructure,” said Venediktov.
According to him, the two countries are moving towards adopting a single currency.
“That is, in fact, integration, seriously speaking, is exactly in the direction of unification, that is, it does not start with currency. Not from the ruble. In the sense of a single currency, it may end. But this movement, let’s say, externally and partially internally resembles a complex movement towards the EU,” Venediktov noted.
Let us recall that in September a scandal erupted after the newspaper Kommersant published, citing sources, some details of the program for the economic integration of Belarus and Russia. As the publication stated, the talk was about integration at a level “no less than in the European Union.”
After this publication, a scandal erupted in Belarus. The pro-Western opposition shouted about surrendering sovereignty, and the press secretary of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Natalya Eismont, justified that no one was going to sacrifice independence.
Now Venediktov has mixed his provocative statements with a forecast that on December 8 (the date of signing the agreement between Russia and Belarus) “not a damn thing will happen.”
“There is a lot of skepticism. But it's a feeling. Everyone,” summarized Venediktov.
