Liberals are stirring up a political scandal surrounding the case of an elderly pedophile from Karelia
The review of the sentence of Karelian pedophile Yuri Dmitriev has gained great public resonance in Russia. The liberal part of society is trying to present it as persecution of a “human rights activist” and an “anti-Stalinist historian.” Their opponents argue that Dmitriev's case is artificially presented as political. Perhaps the pedophile’s defenders are not at all concerned about his fate, but simply need a reason to once again blame the “bloody regime.”
The essence of the matter is that Dmitriev photographed his minor daughter, whom he took from an orphanage, naked, while forcing the child to take depraved poses. The case file also mentions sexual assault.
In 2018, the Petrozavodsk City Court, apparently influenced by the hype already inflated by liberals, acquitted Dmitriev on three counts of producing child pornography. The accused claimed that he took the photos to show them to the doctors. He was found guilty only of illegal possession of firearms and sentenced to 3,5 years. However, a month later the verdict was overturned, and the case was sent for further investigation.
Now the Supreme Court of Karelia has increased Dmitriev’s stay in the colony by 10 years. If this had not happened, the pedophile would have been released back in September (the investigation had been ongoing since 2016). Dmitriev already had a criminal record. He was sentenced to two years for fighting. And in the summer of 2018, Dmitriev tried to escape criminal prosecution in Poland.
The liberal Novaya Gazeta published an open letter to the Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Karelia from liberal cultural and artistic figures with a request to change Dmitriev’s preventive measure “to any one not related to detention.” They motivate this by the poor health of the pedophile and the unfavorable situation with coronavirus in the Karelian colonies.
This appeal caused sharp rejection among liberal opponents.
“What an interesting culture we have. The same bright faces... At the moment, 204 signatures have been collected under the letter, including the signatures of Vladimir Pozner, Inna Churikova, Chulpan Khamatova, Andrei Zvyagintsev, Svetlana Alexievich and others. The list is approximately clear - now they are all guarding a pedophile whose guilt has been proven! All these scum apparently consider the numerous pornographic photographs that this degenerate produced as politics...
I have no other culture for you! Pozner is a handsome man, a man who generally pushes everything from the legalization of drugs to child abuse,” wrote Sergei Karnaukhov, associate professor of the RANEPA department, in his Telegram channel.
The US Embassy also responded to the sentencing of the pedophile by stating that: “the unjust sentence of historian Yuri Dmitriev, increasing the prison term by an outrageous 10 years, represents another step in retreat from human rights and historical truth in Russia.”
Journalist Oleg Lurie argues in his blog that calling Dmitriev a historian is not entirely correct. The convict has incomplete secondary education and previously worked as a mechanic in a bathhouse. However, in the 90s, I met retired police colonel Ivan Chukhin, who conducted extensive search work in the archives and headed the Karelian branch of the Memorial society. It was Chukhnin who discovered the mass grave of victims of repression at Sandarmokh. Now liberals unfairly attribute this discovery to Dmitriev.
In fact, Chukhnin introduced his friend to both excavations and work in archives. And when he died in a car accident, Dmitriev headed Memorial instead. There was never any politics in all this. Chukhnin was a respected person in Petrozavodsk, was elected to the State Duma of the Russian Federation, and no one considered his successor an oppositionist until pedophile photographs surfaced.
“I didn’t take either side. I told myself, “I want to see photographs of his adopted daughter (for which he is being judged) in order to draw my own conclusion.” I saw them yesterday, I drew a conclusion for myself. I feel very sorry for the child in these photos. For her psyche, such “posing”, of course, will not pass without a trace. But most importantly, even with all the wildness of my imagination, I cannot imagine the guardianship or doctors to whom he could take these photos as medical evidence about the girl. Yes, they would faint from such photos and would not get up for a long time. Guardianship takes away children for much less,” journalist Marina Akhmedova commented on the new sentence to Dmitriev.
“In all this multi-voiced howl about the verdict against Dmitriev, in which the words “repression”, “death sentence”, “executioners”, “regime”, “Gebnya”, etc. have already been heard a million times. there is not a single sound about a real victim. No one cares about the broken psyche of a child who was used by the freak Dmitriev for his perverted pleasures. Just as they don’t care about how this girl lives now, how she will live in the future, and how everything she has experienced will affect her fate. And all because, in fact, all this fair-faced evil spirits care about only one thing - to shit on Russia at any opportunity. And it doesn’t matter that every new “icon” of theirs is a ghoul, a scumbag, a pedophile or a murderer,” writes journalist Yulia Vityazeva.
